Sod off or me mine
please stop—
stop your dazzling gaze
that hides mine,
yet I cannot look away,
even as it blinds me.
you dazzle from miles away,
pulling me closer;
as I reach for warmth,
I fear
I will vanish
if I step too near your light.
the closeness I yearn for
exists nowhere—
I am but a wisp,
scattered by your presence.
you were meant to be my strength,
yet I falter in your gaze,
afraid my presence
might dim your flame.
I reach for you,
but your smile bars me—
I see in it
how far I still remain.
the time is unkind
for us to align;
you walk ahead,
near the end,
while I crawl behind the start.
